Welcome to my room … my world!!
This is my new room in my new house! I decorated in 1950’s “fashion in
Paris ” kinda thing. I just love all the extreme fashions by the great designers; Givenchy, Balenciaga, and Balmain. I also adore the 1957 movie “Funny Face” starring
Audrey Hepburn- it’s about this book worm turned
Paris fashion model and of course she falls in love with the handsome photographer---all that really good romantic fantasy stuff… Anyway- that’s where I got the inspiration for my room.
The absolute best part of my room is the huge mural of the
Eiffel
Tower . My Mom designed a whole series of Paris street scenes for her business many years ago. She put the screens in storage for a long time. I asked to have the
Eiffel
Tower section and had it cut down to fit in my room. It is very cool to wake up in
Paris every morning!
I made the lavender walls more interesting by using skinny black ribbon to form the diamond pattern on the walls- then at each criss cross I glued a little mirrored square. I chose chartreuse silk drapes for a surprise of dramatic color—love the drapes!!! I stacked hatboxes and use them to hide my junk. See my little femme phone?- it is just for looks-( I really only use my cell phone.) Gotta have the dressing table. It is actually an old desk from a garage sale- I painted it black and put new handles on it. That mirror-I have had since I was little! I painted it silver and stapled crystal wired beads around the top to dress it up. I put the sheer lavender curtains on a rod- I thought it made the dressing area more defined and elegant.
I am all about decorating on a budget—I even made that daybed!! I took a piece of plywood the same size as a twin mattress, covered it in batting to soften the edges and then stapled lavender polka dot fabric over the batting. Then I stapled black tassel fringe on the edge. The platform is resting on 8 urn pedestals to give it a little height. I then put a twin mattress covered in black polka dot on top of the platform. For the Pièce de résistance - I topped the daybed with a lavender toile feather bed!!! This is for my friends when they sleep over- But I must confess- I sleep there some nights when I want to gaze at the clouds and my baby cherubs!
My royal purple velvet princess chair was actually snatched from the curb on garbage day. Every time I redecorate (and that is at least once a year)- she gets recovered! I love that chair. You know the old saying- “one man’s garage is another diva’s treasure!”
Me and my bud, Nicole stamped all those Fleur de lys on the wall. We were going to do the whole room- but it took so long that we decided one wall was enough—we had fun doing it though!
To wrap up my room—I just had to use my very own adorable Wake Up Frankie products- like FASHION WEEK bedding, DOTS NICE rugs and a sexy LIPS chair- what kind of a diva would I be without the lips?
Write to me and let me know what you think???
